Reigning Olympic marathon champion Sifan Hassan will return to the TCS New York City Marathon on November 1, her management company Global Sport Communication has announced.
Since making a spectacular marathon debut with victory at the 2023 TCS London Marathon, Hassan has established herself as one of the world’s leading marathon runners.
She has added an impressive series of victories to an already remarkable and ever-growing résumé, including the 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, where she set a European record of 2:13:44; the Olympic marathon in Paris, where she set an Olympic record of 2:22:55 to complete an extraordinary triple alongside her medals in the 5000m and 10,000m. And most recently, the 2025 TCS Sydney Marathon.

Later in 2025, Hassan made her TCS New York City Marathon debut, finishing sixth on the iconic five-borough course. This November, she returns to New York determined to test herself again on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
“I’m really looking forward to New York,” Hassan said.
“I’ve had a lot more time to get ready for this marathon than I did last year. I’m happy I didn’t take any risks with my injury in the spring, that’s given me the chance to prepare properly and come into New York healthy. Training is going well, I really want to be competitive in New York this year!”
However, a formidable Kenyan contingent stands in her way, headlined by defending champion and course record-holder Hellen Obiri.
Hassan will also face fierce rivalry from former New York champion Sheila Chepkirui and veteran icon Edna Kiplagat, alongside Ethiopia’s former world champion Gotytom Gebreslase.
