Competition Format

The Ultimate Championship features the top 8 ranked athletes in each of 28 disciplines. No heats or qualifiers — straight finals over three evenings of competition.

Track disciplines of 800m and shorter will have semi-finals (two semis, top 4 advance). The 1500m, 5000m and all field events are straight finals.

Horizontal jumps and throws follow an 8-8-6-4 format: each athlete guaranteed two attempts, then top six get a third, and top four get a final attempt.

Gyula Zsivotzky National Athletics Centre

The National Athletics Centre was built for the 2023 World Athletics Championships. It is located on the eastern bank of the Danube River, in the southern part of Budapest.
