It’s Day 3 in the Bowls and Para Bowls competition. Swimming got off to a thrilling start on Friday and continues, as do Artistic Gymnastics, Para Powerlifting and Boxing and 3x3 Basketball & 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball.
Saturday's top-five highlights:
1. Jersey’s Nowacki out to spoil Ramsay-Peaty’s pool party:
Already a junior world and European champion, 18-year-old Filip Nowacki has the chance on Saturday to become Jersey’s first Commonwealth champion in 36 years.
To do so, the teenager will have to get the better of the 100m Men’s Breaststroke world record holder, three-time Olympic champion and four-time Commonwealth gold medallist, Adam Ramsay-Peaty.
Poppy Maskill and William Ellard will be looking to add to the English excitement, as the S14 Paralympic champions compete in their first Games.
2. Tonga take on Netball giants Australia:
Tonga face one of the biggest challenges in Netball, trying to get the better of Australia on a Commonwealth court. Not only are the Aussie Diamonds defending champions and winners of three golds this century, they have a remarkable win record of 89.5 percent.
Scotland’s challenge is almost as fierce, with the hosts taking on world No.2 ranked side New Zealand in the event opener.
3. Changalawe flies the flag for Tanzania in the Boxing ring:
Yusuf Changalawe will carry the hopes of Tanzanian boxing fans on his shoulders when he goes in the Men’s Light-Heavyweight category. The 28-year-old strongly fancies his chances having bagged a surprise bronze four years ago.
4. Veteran Black leads Canadian charge in stacked Women’s Team final:
England may be the defending Artistic Gymnastics Women’s Team champions but a host of heavyweight challengers are lined up to try to wrestle their crown away.
Twelve years after powering to gold on the Balance Beam, Ellie Black arrives back in Glasgow as a decorated veteran leading a confident Canadian team. Add an Australian outfit boosted by the by the return of Georgia Godwin and Kate McDonald, who won three of the five individual titles between them four years ago, and it’s clear the action in the Glasgow International Arena is not to be missed.
5. Around the Games:
The 18-year-old Tiana Sumanasekera is on a mission to challenge what she sees as the under-representation of elite gymnastics in South Asia.
A team gold medallist for the USA at the 2025 Pan American Championships and a former training partner of seven-time Olympic champion Simone Biles, Sumanasekera will represent Sri Lanka, her parents' place of birth, at these Games.
